The Launchpad has completely transformed our understanding and teaching of pre-phonics skills across EYFS.

Children in nursery have made good progress using LP & enter Reception with a greater readiness to learn, stronger communication skills, and a more secure grasp of pre-literacy foundations. This has resulted in a notable increase in the number of children achieving a GLD & improved outcomes in the Yr 1 PSC.

Our reading and writing were highly praised by Ofsted in our inspection in May 2025. The way we teach is quite precise and individualised – LP is part of this approach.

The LP approach gives practitioners the essential knowledge they need to support children with early literacy skills throughout each day. It has provided staff across our nurseries with valuable knowledge about the fundamental skills children need to become readers and writers. Equipped with such insight, practitioners are now able to identify more specific skill areas in which they can support children to learn, develop and enjoy early literacy.

Launchpad for Literacy has had a dramatic impact on our practice as a school! As committed early years practitioners we love it. It has changed the way that we approach planning for language and communication not only in nursery, but into reception and year 1. We are new to LP this year but already we are excited about it as a school who are struggling with high numbers of Sp.&Lang. difficulties and as a Trust of schools who are always identifying ways to enrich the children’s experiences in our settings. Staff in school are thrilled to be upskilled and to be able to provide SLC support without the long wait for speech therapy through Health services.

We have used Launchpad to help write support plans, looking at the gaps in children’s learning.

LP helps us to set targets on pupil profiles.
